Banned Books Weekbanned book

Join us September 25-October 1 for Banned Books Week! Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States.  To celebrate the library will have a display and is also hosting Blind Date with a Banned Book.  Stop by the library when you have a few minutes to spare and choose one of the gift-wrapped books on display.  Meet your new banned or challenged book and decide if you want to take it home.  If not, return it with no hard feelings and try again.  All who participate will received a themed bookmark and have their name entered into a drawing for a themed prize. Participants should be 15 years old or older as books will be from the YA and adult collections.

Chair-ity fundraiser continues! Blue diamond chair

Put your creative talents to work for this biennial fundraiser for the library!  Pick up a wooden chair from the library, decorate the item any way you like, and return it to the library by October 17.  If you have a wooden chair or other item you want to use you can, but it must be wooden please!  Chairs will be displayed in the library and a silent auction will be held October 17 - November 13.  All proceeds will be used to improve the library’s  services and collections.

September is Library Card Sign-up MonthLibrary Card Signup Month 2015

September is a time when the American Library Association and libraries across the country remind everyone that a library card is the smartest card you can own.  Snoopy is the honorary chair for this month so to celebrate we’ll be having Snoopy & Peanuts themed programs and contests all month!  Come sign up for a library card in September and receive a library magnet, button, and a special Peanuts bookmark designed special for Library Card Sign-Up month.  We are also hosting four opportunities this month for patrons of all ages to show their love for the library and for Snoopy and win prizes!

1. Snoopy, aka Joe Cool, asks “What’s Cooler Than Cool?” and we want you to tell us  what’s cool about our library.  Stop by the library and fill out a slip and get your name entered into a drawing for a Peanuts themed prize.

2. Join our Peanuts coloring contest for kids. Get a Peanuts coloring sheet from the library, color it and return it to the library. Every sheet will be displayed in the library and the artist will get their name entered into a drawing for a Peanuts themed prize.

3. Come take a selfie with Snoopy!  Come see our 3.5 foot tall Snoopy and doghouse and take a picture. Submit a copy of the picture to the library and all participants will be entered into a drawing to win the poster.

4.   The puzzle for the monthly Get Puzzled program is Snoopy Under the Full Moon.  This 1,000 piece puzzle will be located on the table under the skylight and everyone is welcome to add a piece or two or more.  To add to the fun, everyone who works on the puzzle is encouraged to put their name into a drawing to win the puzzle!
