SUMMER READING PROGRAMS 2025

Welcome to the 2025 Summer Reading Programs for all ages! The theme for all the programs is Color Our World.  The program theme this year invites you to embark on a journey of art and creativity, while celebrating the myriad ways in which art enriches our lives.  The program is designed to inspire and engage readers of all ages through a diverse array of artistic expressions.  Below is information on our programs. 

 

Adult Summer Library Program

  • For everyone 18 and older
  • Program runs June 1-August 31
  • Registration begins on June 1 and adults are welcome to join throughout the summer
  • Participants will receive a bookbag, bookmark, and a free book just for registering
  • Participants will track books read or listened to, library services used, programs attended, and activities completed to earn prizes.  Download the flyer/log here.
  • For each four items completed, participants will be able to select an item from the prize box or another book
  • Prizes will be library swag, items donated to the library and things fitting the art theme
  • Participants who complete at least sixteen activities, which must include reading at least four books, will have completed the program and will be eligible for the grand prize drawings
  • Grand Prize drawings will include 2 ski / lift passes to Sundown, a Book Lover’s Basket, an Arts and Crafts basket, a Library Swag Basket, and more.
  • Special programs will also be scheduled
  • The adult summer library program is sponsored by the Friends of the James Kennedy Public Library

 

Color Our World: Book Genre Bingo

  • For adults and teens
  • Bingo runs June 1 - August 31
  • Pick up a bingo form at the library and read different genres. Or download the form here.
  • Each bingo completed earns a book from the summer library program book cart to add to your personal library and a scratch-off ticket for a surprise prize
  • You will also earn an entry into a drawing to win an Adopt-A-Book form (where you can choose one item you’d like added to the library collection)
  • A black-out bingo automatically earns an Adopt-a-book form
  • Participants may select a locally made tote bag (while supplies last) when signing up
  • Participating in the Adult Summer Library Program?  Up to eight of the books you read for bingos may also be included for that program as well.

 

Teen Summer Reading Program

  • For anyone who has completed 6th-12th grade
  • Program runs from June 9 to August 2
  • Registration begins June 9
  • Participants will receive a free book just for registering
  • Participants will fill out short reviews for each book they read for chances to win prizes at the end of the summer (Max 12 reviews). Download the review sheets here.
  • Participants can also earn additional chances to win by attending programs or completing writing prompt challenges found in the YA corner

Children’s Summer Reading Program

  • For children ages 3-12
  • Registration begins June 9 and ends July 25
  • Children will receive a reading log and can pick out a free book! Download the log here.
  • Children will read (or be read to) as much as they wish. Record in the reading log every 20 minutes of reading as one point
  • At the end of the summer reading program, children can use their points to “buy” toys and books at the Summer Reading Completion Party on August 2

Toddler Summer Literacy Program

  • For children ages 0-3
  • Participants will use a simple board game to complete activities that promote literacy and a lifelong love of reading. Download the game board here.
  • Upon completion of the board game, toddlers will receive a board book and a small toy of their choice
  • Families can choose to participate in the Children’s Summer Reading Program if they prefer
