Chair Yoga with Karenchair yoga

Yoga is a great way to promote health of the body and the mind as it creates balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility.  Chair yoga involves the use of a chair to provide support so it is a great for seniors, those with limited mobility, or beginners.  Join us Thursday, July 28 at 10:00 am as Karen Kramer, a registered yoga instructor, teaches this final class on chair yoga. Everyone is welcome to join this free class. Comfortable clothing suggested. Registration is encouraged but walk-ins welcome if space is available.

Teen Summer Reading Program FinaleGet in the game read

Teens that have submitted five reviews for the summer reading program are invited to attend this movie marathon on Friday, July 29 at 6:00 pm and celebrate the end of the program.  All movies will correlate to the program theme, Get in the Game, and will be chosen by the attendees.  There will also be games and food between the movies. Registration is required.

Children’s Summer Reading Program Grand FinaleOn your mark get set read

Celebrate the end of the Children’s Summer Reading Program by playing life size Pac-man, Connect Four, Hungry, Hungry Hippos and more at Candy Cane Park on Saturday, July 30 at 10:00 am.  Relay games and water balloons will add to the fun. There will be popcorn and Victory Ford will supply juice boxes. Maxx the Mustang will be there too! All ages welcome, but children under the age of 6 need an adult or mature teen companion.


Open Mic NightOpen Mic Night

The James Kennedy Public Library is hosting a monthly open mic night at local restaurant Brew & Brew on Friday, August 5 at 6:00 pm (and the first Friday of each month). Performers are encouraged to sign up for ten minute time slots and show off their talents. Poetry, music, readings and comedy are just a few examples! All ages are welcome to come and watch, but performers are limited to age 13 and up. Performers can register in advance at either the Library or Brew & Brew with walk-in performances allowed if there is time. Tables for spectators can be reserved by calling Brew & Brew.

Life Hacks @ Your LibraryLife hacks

Life hacks are ideas and shortcuts to make our lives easier. Join us on Saturday, August 6 at 10:00 am as library staff share some life and technology shortcuts to help make your life easier. Participants will also be encouraged to share personal life hacks, if they so choose.  

Building Creativity One Block at a Time: a LEGO® programLegos with DuTrac

Join us for this month’s LEGO® program on Saturday, August 13 from 2:00-4:00 pm.  The theme is "Bad Luck". This program is for all ages but children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult or older partner. This LEGO®  program is part of a monthly LEGO® building block program at the library sponsored by DuTrac Community Credit Union.

Death Gets a Red Card Interactive Murder Mysterydeath gets a red card

Have you ever wanted to participate in a murder mystery? Here is your chance! Join us Saturday, August 13 at 6:00 pm for this special after hours murder mystery event! Who would want to harm the star of the high school soccer team? Come and find out!  Must be 13 or older to participate. Registration requested as a minimum of 8 people is needed for the program to be held.  Refreshments provided.


Adult Summer Reading Program Continues through August 31

Everyone 18 and older is encouraged to participate in the 2016 Adult Summer Reading Program. Registration begins on June 1 and adults are welcome to join at any time during the summer.  The program runs June 1 through August 31 with the theme Exercise your Mind - Read!  Join us as we explore ways to keep our minds and bodies healthy through fitness, nutrition, stress relief, and READING!  Visit our Summer Reading Program page for more information about all three of our Summer Reading Programs.  Submit your book reviews here or pick up paper copies at the library.

Students who have completed 6th-12th grades are invited to participate in the 2016 Summer Reading Program which runs through July 30. The theme this year is Get In The Game - Read!  Participants can register through July 23. The program has been revamped this year so visit our Summer Reading Program page for more information and to learn about all three of our Summer Reading Programs.

The James Kennedy Public Library is very pleased to announce two new language learning services for library users: Mango Languages and Little Pim.  Mango Languages is an online language-learning system for teens and adults and Little Pim is a language service for children.  There are over 60 languages available to learn in Mango and 10 languages in Little Pim.  Both services can be accessed directly from the library’s website or by downloading the app on your smartphone or tablet.  All you need is your JKPL library card and you can access the service from anywhere you have internet access.  Ask us for more information or check it out for yourself!  View the 2 minute promo video on Youtube here!
