Join Dyersville author, Carol Edwards Denekas, on Saturday, June 25 at 2:00 pm as she talks about her second published book, Seeds of Hope, which is set in Western Iowa. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing by the author.

LEGO® Sports Build-a-thonLegos with DuTrac

Join us all month in July for an ongoing LEGO® building project set up on the table under the skylight in the middle of the library. Everyone is encouraged to spend some time putting the blocks together.  The theme is “Sports Arena” and the only limit to what you can build is your imagination! Those participants under the age of 18 will be entered in a drawing to win prizes at the end of the month. This LEGO®  program is sponsored by DuTrac Community Credit Union.

Open Mic NightOpen Mic Night

The James Kennedy Public Library is hosting a monthly open mic night at local restaurant Brew & Brew on Friday, July 1 at 6:00 pm (and on the first Friday of each month). Performers are encouraged to sign up for ten minute time slots and show off their talents. Poetry, music, readings and comedy are just a few examples! All ages are welcome to come and watch, but performers are limited to age 13 and up. Performers can register in advance at either the Library or Brew & Brew with walk-in performances allowed if there is time. Tables for spectators can be reserved by calling Brew & Brew.

Healthy  Body, Strong MindGuy working out

Kara Wessel from the Total Fitness Rec Center will be at the library on Monday, July 11 at 7:00 pm to present this program on health and nutrition, including why a healthy body is important for a strong and healthy mind.  Refreshments provided.

Our bodies need exercise to be healthy, and all of our parts work together to keep us moving. Join us on Tuesday, July 12 at 1:30 pm as we make a heart pump model, play pin-the-organ on the body, and make Q-tip skeletons. The program will conclude with a heart-healthy snack. Registration is limited to 25. Walk-ins are welcome if there is space. All ages welcome, but children under the age of six need an adult or mature teen companion.   



Adult Summer Reading Program Begins June 1

Everyone 18 and older is encouraged to participate in the 2016 Adult Summer Reading Program. Registration begins on June 1 and adults are welcome to join at any time during the summer.  The program runs June 1 through August 31 with the theme Exercise your Mind - Read!  Join us as we explore ways to keep our minds and bodies healthy through fitness, nutrition, stress relief, and READING!  Visit our Summer Reading Program page for more information about all three of our Summer Reading Programs.  Submit your book reviews here or pick up paper copies at the library.

Teen Summer Reading Program Begins June 6

Students who have completed 6th-12th grades are invited to participate in the 2016 Summer Reading Program which run June 6-July 30. The theme this year is Get In The Game - Read!  Registration begins May 31 on-line or June 6 in-person. The program has been revamped this year so visit our Summer Reading Program page for more information and to learn about all three of our Summer Reading Programs.

The James Kennedy Public Library is very pleased to announce two new language learning services for library users: Mango Languages and Little Pim.  Mango Languages is an online language-learning system for teens and adults and Little Pim is a language service for children.  There are over 60 languages available to learn in Mango and 10 languages in Little Pim.  Both services can be accessed directly from the library’s website or by downloading the app on your smartphone or tablet.  All you need is your JKPL library card and you can access the service from anywhere you have internet access.  Ask us for more information or check it out for yourself!  View the 2 minute promo video on Youtube here!
