National Novel Writing Month Kick-off and author visits

If you have ever thought about writing a novel, now is your chance to give it a try: This year, the James Kennedy Public Library is participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). The goal is to write one 50,000 word novel in one month's time. Are you ready for the challenge?

The library will kick off this special month On November 1st with author presentations at 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Author Bruce Bothwell will talk about his books and the writing process at 2pm. Bothwell, who is from Asbury, Iowa, has written and self-published 16 books.  One of his books, On the Tramp, is about his father's experiences as a hobo during the Great Depression.  He will be available to answer questions about the writing process, his books, and self publishing.

At 5pm, Mary Potter Kenyon, from Manchester, Iowa, will talk about living a writing way of life.She applies principles of lifelong learning to the freelance writing experience.  Her writings have been published in various national magazines including "Woman's Day" and "Home Education".  She has also been published in a dozen anthologies including "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books. Kenyon currently writes for The Manchester Press newspaper. She will answer questions about the writing process and her freelance writing.

The library will schedule time, space, and laptops for writers to use from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm to help them get going on their novel writing goal.
