Summer Reading Programs

Welcome to the 2016 Summer Reading Programs! 

 

CHILDREN:  On Your Mark, Get Set....Read! On your mark get set read

  • For children PreK-5th grade 
  • The program runs June 6-July 30
  • Paper reading logs, flier, and book bags will be given out at sign up
  • In-person registration begins June 6
  • On-line registration begins May 31
  • Download bingo sheets (PreK-5th grade or 0-36 months) or flyer to view or print.  Or pick up a paper copy at the library.

 

How the program works:

Summer readers will get a fun Library Bingo Card. Kids over the age of three can make a bingo and earn a book of their choice; make  a second bingo and get a goody bag. Keep on making bingos (up to 4 per card) and for each bingo their name is entered into the drawing for large prizes at the end of the program. Kids may do more than one card. There will be a simpler card for kids under the age of 3, with slightly different rules.  

 

 

TEEN: Get in the Game - Read!Get in the game read

  • For students who have completed 6th-12th grades
  • The program runs June 6-July 30
  • Free book will be given at registration

 

How the program works:

This year participants will submit short reviews for any books read and may also submit one review each for a movie watched, video game played, or magazine read.  Pick an “alias” for review purposes - be sure to include your alias on each review submitted.  Each review gets their name entered for prize drawings at the end of the reading program which include shirts, earbuds, a Fitbit, and four tickets to Adventureland among other things. Participants who complete the program by turning in five or more reviews will be invited to the Teen Summer Reading Program Finale on July 30.

 

ADULT: Exercise Your Mind - Read!Exercise your mind read

  • For anyone 18 and older with a James Kennedy Public Library library card
  • The program runs June 1-August 31
  • Join us for fun, entertaining, and educational programming, reading incentives, and some great prizes!
  • Registration begins June 1
  • Submit your book reviews here!

 

How the program works:

All participants receive a membership card, book bag, bookmark, pencil, and a free book just for registering! Pick an “alias” for review purposes - be sure to include your alias on each review submitted!  Document on the membership card when you have read or listened to a book or magazine, utilized a library service, attended a library event or participated in a physical or health related activity. Bring the card in to be stamped by a library staff member. Each square on the card equals a chance to win from the prize drawing at the end of the program. For every four items completed, participants will be eligible to select a prize from the prize box. Participants must read or listen to at least four books and submit at least two recommendations or reviews to complete a card. Fill one membership card to be eligible for the grand prize drawing. Card finished before the summer is over? Pick up another one and keep going!
