Build-A-Basket Fundraiser at James Kennedy Public Library

Document Actions

With the beginning of a new year the library has decided to try a new fundraising event – a basket fundraiser!  There are two ways you can build a basket.  The first is to pick a favorite book and build a basket around that book.  If you love the book “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett you could put a copy of the book in the basket and then fill the basket up with gardening related items such as gloves, seed packets, or a trowel.  The second way to build a basket is simply to pick something you love like sewing, cooking, or cats and build a basket of items around that theme.   If you love sewing you could use that as your theme by purchasing items for the basket that have something to do with sewing. These could be sewing novelties, patterns, or even notepads that have sewing related pictures on them.

All completed baskets must be turned in to the library by Saturday, February 23.  Don’t have a basket to put your items in?  The library has baskets of all sizes we can give you for this fundraiser.  As the completed baskets are being donated, the library is putting them on display so you can check them out.  The library is also wrapping all donated baskets in clear cellophane to keep them intact.  A silent auction on the baskets will begin on Monday, February 25 and end on March 10. The library will be hosting an open house on March 10 from 1:00-3:00pm so you have one final chance to check out the baskets.  Bidding will end promptly at 3:00pm so you won’t want to miss out on a chance to get your final bid in!

Donated baskets are already starting to come in and we are seeing some really creative baskets including ones for Christmas enthusiasts, dog owners, babies, artists, and genealogy buffs.  The baskets can be themed for any age and can be as large or as small as you want to make them.  And the theme is up to you so the sky is the limit.  Registration is requested if you are going to participate so we know how many baskets to expect.

So come showcase what you love at this new library fundraising event and be sure to bid on a basket as well.  They make great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, or Easter!
