Did you know that September is Library Card Sign-up Month?  This is a time when the American Library Association and libraries across the country remind everyone that a library card is the smartest card you can own.

When many people think about the library they think about our selection of books or dvds that can be borrowed.  But we are so much more than that!  Did you know that we have over 100 magazines you can check out?  We have a lovely reading room with a fireplace where you can sit and read in comfy chairs or read one of the newspapers we get in from several places in Iowa and a few other states.  We carry audiobooks (in cd, playaway or downloadable formats), eBooks, television shows on dvd, and books in large print.  We have free wireless computer access if you bring in your laptop and we have a computer lab where you can even use one of the library’s computers.  We have travel information to help you plan your next vacation, access to online databases for information or homework help, newspapers on microfilm for research, and access to genealogical databases to help you trace your family tree.

Don’t forget we have many programs open to the community; some are regularly scheduled for each month or season, some are thematic, and many are special events such as classes, author visits, or gaming events.  We also show movies each month with a regular schedule of family movies, teen movies, and movies that appeal to everyone.  Each month we put out a paper newsletter of the current months events that you can pick up at the circulation desk at the library.  All our events are posted on our website (www.dyersville.lib.ia.us) and updated frequently.  There is always something to do at the JKPL!

To celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month, the JKPL has set a goal to sign up 50 new card holders! If you’ve been thinking about getting a library card, now is the time to do so.  If you’ve never set foot inside our library now is a good time to come see all the wonderful things we offer.  Once you see the wonderful things you can get involved with and check out at our library you’ll want to get a library card!  If you haven’t signed your children up for a library card yet this is the month to do so!  Prizes will be handed out to those who sign up for a new card during this month. There will also be a display in the library about many of the things you can do with your JKPL library card.

For the first time, the library is also partnering with various businesses in town who are offering discounts to customers during the month of September who show their JKPL library card. A list of all participating businesses is available at the library or on the website.
