The Hows and Why of Making a Will

Do you have your Last Will and Testament made?  Or is it something you’ve been putting off completing because the task seems too daunting? Is thinking about your death and how your assets will be handled something you’d rather not think about it?

A last will and testament is a legal document that declares how an estate or property will be managed after the owner’s death. Although it is not the most pleasant subject to approach, it is essential for people to draft a will to ensure that their assets are handled in the way they would want after they are gone.  For those who have children who are minors, it is crucial to declare how property and money will be used to provide for these children. For those with investments or accumulated savings, it is important to determine who will manage these funds the way you would want them handled. For anyone who wants to provide for their loved ones after death, a will is a necessary document.  Ultimately, a will reflects the wishes of its maker and can provide peace of mind that one’s death will not cause additional or unnecessary stress and frustration for the most important people in one’s life.

However, making a will often raises a lot of questions and it is hard to know where to go to get answers. The library is happy to partner with local attorney, Werner Hellmer, who will present a program about “The Hows and Whys Of Making a Will”.  Whether you are in the midst of changing your will or making one for the first time, this program is for you!  Mr. Hellmer will present information about the different types of wills you can draw up, who should make a will and why, along with various medical directives you should consider including. He will also be available to answer any questions you have.  The library will also provide attendees, free of charge, a workbook to help guide you through the will making process and address many of the questions your will should answer.

This program will be presented on two different days.  Join us Monday, December 3 at 6:00pm or Friday, December 7 at 2:00pm.  Registration is requested so call the library or stop by to register.
