Christmas Events at the James Kennedy Public Library
newspaper article for the Dyersville Commercial
The holiday season is upon us! To celebrate this season the library has plenty going on between special events, a cookie fundraiser, and lots and lots of Christmas movies! We hope that you will have time to join us in one of these special events.
Santa is coming! Have you been naughty or nice this year? Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making a special stop at the library on Saturday, December 1 from 10:00am-1:00pm. All ages are welcome and don’t forget to bring your camera!
Craving something sweet but don’t have time to bake? Then come by the library on Saturday, December 1 from 10:00am-2:00pm for the second annual cookie walk fundraiser. Purchase a tray for $5.00 and fill it with a dozen cookies and treats provided by our friends, volunteers, board and staff of the library. Volunteers will be on hand to wrap your tray before you leave. Last year showed us what wonderful bakers we have in this town so you won’t want to miss out on opportunity to buy some delicious homemade treats!
Are you dreaming of an old fashioned Christmas? Join us on Sunday, December 3 from 1:00-3:00pm at the Dyer-Botsford Museum and walk through the beautifully decorated home of the founder of Dyersville. Enjoy traditional Christmas carols, spiced cider, and cookies. Santa will put in a special appearance and will read his favorite poem.
Do you like Christmas movies? Then the JKPL is the place to be this December! We have twelve Christmas movies scheduled during the month of December. There will be something for everyone in your household with stories about puppies, believing in Santa, the holidays gone awry, and even those special Christmas angels. Maybe we’re showing your favorite Christmas movie this season! Check the library’s website for more information: wwww.dyersville.lib.ia.us
New this year will be a book exchange on Saturday, December 15 and Sunday, December 16th. This is a fun way to treat yourself to something new to read or share a book you are finished with. Just wrap up a gently used / nearly new book from your home library and mark it with a general statement of what it is – novel, romance, children’s picture book, biography, etc. Bring your gift wrapped book to the library and exchange it for another. Books can be exchanged Saturday 9:00 am-5:00pm or Sunday 1:00-4:00pm,. To add to the mood, cookies and cider will be available 1:00-4:00pm both days.
While you’re celebrating this holiday season we hope you’ll incorporate some of the library’s Christmas events into your family’s plans. The James Kennedy Public Library wishes you and your families a wonderful holiday season!
