COLLECTION

Spring is upon us and for many that means it is time for spring cleaning.  As for me, I have been busy spring cleaning the Inspirational Fiction collection.  Our Inspirational Fiction collection is a collection of approximately 700 books that weave religious ideas and faith into the characters and storylines.  The majority of the collection focuses on the Protestant Christian and Amish faiths.  This is due to the fact that the majority of religious fiction available focuses on these two faiths.  Inspirational Fiction is often referred to as Christian Fiction because of this.  However, there are a few authors available that focus on Catholicism, Mormonism, or other religions and the library does have some of these as well.  Some of the books found in the Inspirational Fiction collection are pronounced in their incorporation of religious beliefs into the stories while others choose to weave many of the beliefs and tenants of a particular faith subtly throughout the entire story.  As a whole, Inspirational Fiction is known for being a “gentler” read in that there is a lack of profanity, explicit sex, or explicit violence.

Those familiar with Inspirational Fiction know that historical romances are the cornerstone of this genre.  However, over the years Inspirational Fiction has grown to incorporate modern day stories, mysteries, thrillers and even some vampire novels!  While reviewing our current collection I found many Inspirational Fiction authors had been located elsewhere in the library so I moved all of them into the Inspirational Fiction collection so that everything is now housed together.  Hopefully when you browse our collection now you will discover new authors and new books to read!

DISCUSSION SERIES

Because Inspirational Fiction is a popular collection for us at the library, I have decided to host a six book reading discussion series dedicated exclusively to Inspirational Fiction.   This series will start on Tuesday, July 10 and end on September 18.  Meetings will be on alternating Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm in the Genealogy Room and will last between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 minutes.  Copies of each book will be provided by the library for all participants to check out.  Participants will have two weeks to read each book before the group meets to talk about it.  It can be both fun and interesting to discuss a book as a group and find out what others think about it.  Plus there will always be snacks!  You are not required to read every book or to attend every meeting in order to participate, but you’ll want to!  Registration for this series has begun and I encourage you to stop by the library or call us and register if you are interested so the library can get an accurate count of how many books we need to order.   I have not yet finalized all six books for this series but my goal is to introduce the participants to new authors as well as books that forever changed the face of Christian publishing.   You won’t want to miss it!
