The James Kennedy Public Library is happy to announce that we have added a new service for our patrons who love audiobooks!  Starting July 1, the library has partnered with Recorded Books to provide a service called OneClickdigital.  This service offers over 3,000 downloadable adult, young adult, and children’s books with new titles added quarterly.   Some of the authors in the adult collection include J.D. Robb, Alexander McCall Smith, Robyn Carr, Beverly Lewis, and Francine Rivers.

How does it work?  You access the OneClickdigital website through our library website.  There is a banner on our homepage as well as a button on the Books and Reading tab.  You search the OneClickdigital website, find the book you want, and check it out.  The book will download to your computer (PC or Mac) using a free management software you have to download from OneClickdigital.  Once the book is on your computer you can either listen to it from there or transfer it to a portable device such as an MP3 player, iPhone, or iPad.  All titles are iPod compatible and most are compatible for other brands of MP3 players as well.  There is also an app for your iPhone and iPad!  Android apps for Android based phones and tablets are in the works.

When you visit the OneClickdigital website for the first time you’ll be asked to create an account using your JKPL library card and your personal email address.  The login and password you set up is what you will use to log in during future visits.  You will also need to download to your computer the free management software called OneClickdigital MediaManger.  All of this only needs to be done the first time you use the website.

We chose OneClickdigital for many reasons.  They offer a large, varied collection of titles; most titles allow for multiple use so it is not necessary to put books on hold; the website is accessible 24 hours a day;  most of the titles offer previews so you can hear the narrator before you download the book;  you can search for books based on the narrator;  you can adjust the speed of the narrators talking; the website is user friendly and easy to use;  and OneClickdigital offers help directly to the patron through the Help portal on their website or via email or telephone.

The service has been set up so each book can be checked out for 14 days.  Each book can be renewed one time for another 14 days and a patron can check out a total of five items at a time.

Don’t forget the library also has a large selection of audiobooks on CD and playaway for you to check out.  Plus, if you are a Dyersville resident or other full service member you can still download audiobooks from NEIBORS.  The library is very excited about OneClickdigital  and we hope that you will check it out and find many books to listen to!
