Wednesday, March 9: World Read Aloud Day. World Read Aloud Day is about taking action to show the world that the right to read and write belongs to all people. World Read Aloud Day motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one person to another, and creates a community of readers advocating for every child’s right to a safe education and access to books and technology. The James Kennedy Public Library is celebrating this day by encouraging everyone to take time to read aloud to someone they love. Library staff will be available to read aloud in the library and welcome invitations to read aloud at other locations. Videos of staff reading aloud will be posted on the web and a staff member may be broadcast reading aloud over the local radio station. Everyone is encouraged to track minutes read and help WorldLit meet their goal of 774 minutes in honor of the 774 million people worldwide who cannot read or write.
