Wreath-It-Up for your Library!!!

Attention crafters!  Would you like to showcase your special abilities and raise money for a good cause?  The James Kennedy Public Library is holding a new fundraising event this fall – Wreath-it-up for your library - and we would like your help.

For the past two years we held our “Chair-ity Event” fundraiser.  It is a fun and successful event, but we decided to “mix it up” a bit.   This year we are asking people to decorate a wreath and donate it to the library.  If this event is successful, the plan is to alternate these two events.

Want to know how to participate?  It is very simple.  Pick up a wreath from the library, decorate it anyway you like, and return it to the library.   OR—Create and/or decorate a wreath of your own & donate it to the library.  The wreaths can be for any season, holiday, or theme that you like.  The library has many different wreath forms to choose from – pine, grapevine, Styrofoam, and wood are all available for you to use as a base.

All wreaths should be brought to the library by October 31.

Wreaths will be on display in the library and at the Taste of the Midwest on Wednesday, September 28.  During November, library visitors and staff will have the opportunity to vote for their favorites and ribbons will be awarded.  A silent auction of the wreaths will be held at the library starting on November 1 and ending on November 13.  The library is planning an open house with refreshments on the 13th, and the bidding will end promptly at 3:00 pm.  If you want your wreath back, you must bid on it!  All of the proceeds raised this year will be used to improve the various library game collections.

If you want to participate but need some ideas we have some ways to help.  Stop in the library and take a look at the wreaths that have already been submitted.  We have several books on wreaths that are on display for you to browse, check out and take home.  Also, on Sunday, October 2 at 2:00 pm, Diana and Sara will be holding a “Wreath-It-Up” class where they will demonstrate some techniques and share hints and ideas for creating wreaths.

If you wish to contribute to the library, but don’t have the time or creativity, please consider donating your unwanted wreaths (or wooden chairs) for others to create with!  Our supply is limited, so donations would be very welcome!
