Wreath-It-Up a Success
The James Kennedy Public Library’s first ever “Wreath-It-Up” fundraiser ended this past Sunday with an open house and the end of the bidding. This event raised $735.00 which will be used to purchase materials for the library’s gaming collection – board games, console games, etc. What a wonderful, successful event – Thank you!
Since this was our first “Wreath-It-Up” event, I wanted to take a few minutes to share a bit about it. If you haven’t been in the library in the last couple of months, you missed out on seeing how talented Dyersville area residents are. The library provided wreath forms if desired, or crafters could provide their own. Twenty-eight area crafters created and donated fifty-five different wreaths. Patrons were invited to vote for their favorite wreaths and ribbons were awarded. The wreaths were displayed at the library during October and November and sold at the silent auction on Sunday. The minimum bid on the wreaths was $5.00 and all of the wreaths were sold. The highest bid received was $80.00 for the Hawkeye Wreath.
This event was sponsored by the Marketing Committee of the library, and we thought it was a fun way to raise a little money for the library’s gaming collection. A patron, however, brought a different perspective. She told me that this event was touching so many people – the people who could share their time and talents by creating the beautiful wreaths, the people who visited the library while the wreaths were on display because they could enjoy and appreciate the beauty, and the people who purchased the wreaths because they could take them home and continue to enjoy them.
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this event a success. The crafters in this area of Iowa are amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent to support the library and to bring enjoyment to all those who saw and appreciated the wreaths. Thank you also to the members of the Marketing Committee who worked hard to put this event together. And thank you to the library staff and volunteers who kept track of the wreaths and did such a great job of displaying them. This was a fun, successful event because all of you worked so hard to make it great.
