Discussion of book "Dispatches."  Although this third book is not a soldier's memoir, it is still considered by many to be one of the best published accounts of the American experience in Vietnam.  Journalist Michael Herr uses his skills as a keen observer and perceptive writer to describe the experiences of U.S. armed forces and civilians during that painful and still-troubling period when our country seemed to be at war at home as well as in Southeast Asia.  This series is facilitated by Allison McNeese and  is funded by a grant from Humanities Iowa.
