This group gathers on the first Monday of each month to discuss different books selected by the group. This month selection is The Handmaid and the Carpenter by Elizabeth Berg. This novel tells the Nativity story in a new way. It portrays Mary and Joseph as provincial teenagers who try to honor family tradition in spite of challenging circumstances. Alternating between the voices of the holy couple, Berg relates a romance that blossoms at the wedding of relatives between the 16-year-old carpenter from Nazareth and the comely 13-year-old girl originally from Sepphoris. Everyone is welcome to come, listen and share. Bring your lunch, if you wish. Dessert and beverages are provided by the participants or the Friends of the Library. Copies of the book are available to borrow from the library.
