Young Homer Hickman becomes fascinated with rocket science when he sees Sputnik race across the sky. After experimenting and nearly blowing himself up, he manages to launch his own rocket to the amazement of the entire town, and more importantly, to the reluctant approval of his father. Based on a true story, the coming-of-age saga takes place in a West Virginia coal-mining town in the late '50s. This film is based on the book "Rocket Boys" by Homer Hickman. It is rated PG. Popcorn and beverages provided by the Friends of the Library.
